  1. ATPDEC README (Thierry Leconte 2003)
  2. DESCRIPTION
  3. Atpdec is an open source program that decodes images transmitted by POES
  4. NOAA weather satellite series.
  5. These satellites transmit continuously, among other things, medium
  6. resolution images of the earth on 137Mhz.
  7. These transmissions could be easily received with an inexpensive antenna
  8. and dedicated receiver.
  9. Output from such a receiver, is an audio signal that could be recorded
  10. into a soundfile with any soundcard.
  11. Atpdec will convert these sounfiles into .png images.
  12. For each soundfile up to 6 images could be generated :
  13. 1. Raw image : contains the 2 transmitted channel images + telemetry
  14. and synchro pulses.
  15. 2. Calibrated channel A image
  16. 3. Calibrated channel B image
  17. 4. Temperature compensed I.R image
  18. 5. False color image
  19. 6. pixel distribution statistique (usefull for false color parameter debugging).
  20. Input soundfiles must be mono signal sampled at 11025 Hz.
  21. Atpdec use libsndfile to read soundfile, so any sound file format supported by libsndfile
  22. could be read.(Only tested with .wav file).
  23. COMPILATION
  24. Atpdec is written in plain standart C and must be very portable.
  25. It was only tested on Linux Suse 8.2, but must work on any Unix platform.
  26. Just adapt the Makefile and type make (sorry no configure).
  27. atpdec use libsndfile, libpng and libm.
  28. snd.h and png.h header must be present on your system.
  29. If they are not on standard path, edit the include path in the Makefile.
  30. USAGE
  31. atpdec [options] soundfiles ...
  32. OPTIONS
  33. -i [r|a|b|c|t|d]
  34. Toggle raw (r) , channel A (a) , channel B (b) , false color (c) ,
  35. temperature (t) or pixel distrubution (d) output.
  36. Default : "ac"
  37. -d directory
  38. Optional images destination directory.
  39. Default : soundfile directory.
  40. -s n
  41. Satellite ident : n=0 :NOOA-15 n=1 :NOAA-17
  42. Used for Temperature compensation.
  43. Default : NOAA17
  44. -c conf_file
  45. Use configuration file for false color generation.
  46. Default : Internal parameters.
  47. -p
  48. Output 16bits grayscale image for channel A|B and raw images.
  49. OUTPUT
  50. Generated image are in png format, 16 or 8bits greyscale for raw and channel A|B images,
  51. 24bits RVB for false color.
  52. Image names are soundfilename-x.png, where x is :
  53. -r for raw images
  54. -satellite instrument number (1,2,3A,3B,4,5) for channel A|B images
  55. -c for false colors.
  56. -d for pixel distribution stats.
  57. EXAMPLE
  58. atpdec -d image -i ac *.wav
  59. Will process all .wav files in the current directory, generate only channel A and false color images and put them in the image directory.
